How to clean silver jewellery?
You would have often seen your shining silver jewellery turning grey.
Many things in your everyday life can cause your silver to tarnish. These include:
- Hand creams
- Perfumes
- Soaps
- Makeup
- Chlorine from swimming pools or cleaning chemicals
- The PH of your skin
- The air around you, especially if it's humid
Silver tarnish is almost impossible to avoid, but there are a lot of factors that can make it more or less obvious and happen more or less quickly.
The good news is that you can make a big difference to how bad the tarnish gets and you can clean your silver to bring it back to its sparkling best.
Ways to clean your Silver Jewellery -
SOAP WATER
1. Select a bowl that can fit your jewellery.
2. Add lukewarm water to the bowl
3. Add a teaspoon of mild detergent powder and mix well
4. Place your silver jewellery into bowl and let it rest for 15 minutes
5. Post 15 minutes, use a soft bristle tooth brush to clean the jewellery piece.
6. Wash the jewellery piece with clean water and ensure to wipe it dry.
7. Now place your jewellery in an air tight box, to avoid it from tarnishing again.
BAKING SODA PASTE
If your jewellery is heavily tarnished, you can use baking soda paste to clean it.
1. Take 1 tsp of baking soda in a bowl and add enough water to make a flowy paste.
2. Take some of this paste on a soft bristle toothpaste and rub your jewellery gently.
3. Wash the jewellery piece with clean water and ensure to wipe it dry.
4. Now place your jewellery in an air tight box, to avoid it from tarnishing again.
